Your Support Matters - Why Cities and Communities Should Support Local Equestrian Centers

An article by Lesa Williams, ASM Global Equestrian Director

Equestrian Centers play a vital role in our communities, especially now. Urban development often prioritizes financial incentives, threatening the preservation of open spaces. Yet, these centers thrive on community support, becoming integral to the community's identity. For instance, the bustling equestrian scene at Wellington International during winter months or the unique contrast of urban meets rural at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center,  showcase the community spirit that rallies around these centers. This spirit is evident in local businesses that welcome attendees with equestrian-themed specials and signage, creating a shared excitement around the events along with the energy created from a packed arena.

You might wonder about the relevance of these centers if you're not an equestrian. Equestrian Centers thrive on community awareness and public engagement. Most equestrian events are free to the public, yet there's often a misconception that they are exclusive. Event organizers aspire to fill arenas with spectators, not just participants, to create a lively atmosphere. These centers can extend their reach through community and business involvement, becoming more appealing to sponsors and prompting further investments into the site and the local community. These investments are crucial for maintaining and keeping the centers bustling with activities.

Equestrian Centers are similar to parks, offering spaces for access to nature and the outdoors. Over the years, I have contributed to developing numerous equestrian and other public spaces that significantly enhance and enrich the lives of those in the community. A center's success is deeply intertwined with community support. So, the next time you're pondering a weekend activity, consider grabbing your boots and favorite jeans and head to your local equestrian center. It's an experience to be shared, so bring along friends and family!  We can’t wait to get to know you!

See you soon,
Lesa
